Active Learning Methodologies in a High Stakes Graduate Nursing Program

Active learning with student engagement has been demonstrated to improve knowledge retention and in graduate education. Nurse anesthesia education traditionally taught using lecture slide presentations without considering centered learning. Much attention given active strategies promote content retention, yet little information exists regarding preferences for higher level nursing courses. This mixed-methods study aimed examine seven different instructional methodologies; traditional lecture, a problem-based exercise, reading workbook assignments, development of cognitive aids, game-based learning, practice questions, case study, as well which were best learn by. Students prefer assigned workbooks over other exercises reported from readings easiest methods by learn.
